Supporting individuals into meaningful careers through confidence, experience and opportunity

not pressure

The Ginger Nut Project is designed for individuals who have potential, but need the right support, structure and exposure before stepping into an apprenticeship or employment.
Rather than pushing immediate outcomes, we focus on building confidence, routine and real‑world understanding first — creating a pathway into long‑term, sustainable careers.

The Challenge

The issue is not potential.
The issue is access.
Many individuals who are capable of succeeding in the workplace lack:
    • Confidence
    • Stability
    • Exposure to professional environments
Without these foundations, opportunities like apprenticeships remain out of reach — not because of ability, but because of readiness.
The Ginger Nut Project exists to bridge that gap.

How the Ginger Nut Project Works

We provide a structured pathway into employment and apprenticeships built around three key stages:
    1. Futures Programme
Low‑pressure Careers Experience, developing confidence and workplace understanding
      2. Work Experience Pathway
Structured placements with increased responsibility and support
      3. Scholarships & Progression
Opportunities to move into apprenticeships, employment, or supported roles
This is not a short-term intervention — it is a progressive journey into sustained opportunity.

      Futures Programme

Careers Experience (3 days per week)

Not everyone is ready to start an apprenticeship immediately.

The Futures Programme provides structured, low‑pressure exposure to workplaces — focused on careers, not traditional work experience.

Participants attend three days per week, building routine and confidence while gaining a realistic understanding of working environments and expectations.
      What participants receive:
      • Workplace shadowing opportunities
      • Structured Careers Experience placements
      • CV development and personal branding support
      • Introductions to employers
      • Ongoing mentoring and guidance (where appropriate)
      This stage is about:
        • Building confidence
        • Developing routine
        • Understanding how a workplace operates
It creates a foundation for progression, rather than expecting immediate readiness.

        Work Experience Pathway

For individuals ready to take the next step, we offer structured work experience placements with continued support.

These placements move beyond initial exposure, allowing participants to:

        • Apply skills in real working environments
        • Build employer relationships
        • Gain practical experience linked to future roles

        What’s included:

          • Structured work experience placements
          • Continued CV support
          • Employer introductions
          • Interview preparation

          Extended Placements

Through collaboration with Jobcentre Plus, we are also able to support extended periods of work experience, providing additional time for individuals to develop confidence and capability.

          Scholarships & Protected Roles

Where available, the Ginger Nut Project provides access to scholarship opportunities and protected roles, offering financial stability and structured support to enable progression into employment or apprenticeships.

These opportunities are intentionally limited and made available when suitable placements exist, ensuring each individual receives focused, high‑quality support rather than high‑volume placements.

          • Living Wage supported opportunities
          • Structured progression into apprenticeships
          • Additional guidance within supported environments

This approach allows us to prioritise meaningful outcomes over scale.

          The Impact

The Ginger Nut Project is built on a simple principle:

With the right support, structure and opportunity, individuals succeed.

Through our model, participants benefit from:

          • Increased confidence and work readiness
          • Clear pathways into apprenticeships and employment
          • Ongoing mentorship and support
          • Access to opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach

This is not about short-term outcomes — it is about long-term progression and sustained success.

          • Support work experience opportunities
          • Engage with apprenticeship progression pathways
          • Offer input, mentoring, or exposure to your organisation
