Learner Safeguarding Champion
Helping Promote a Safe and Supportive Learning Environment
As part of our commitment to learner voice, wellbeing and safeguarding, Ginger Nut Training is looking to appoint a Learner Safeguarding Champion and, where possible, a Deputy Learner Safeguarding Champion.
This voluntary role provides learners with an opportunity to support safeguarding awareness across the organisation, act as a positive advocate for learner wellbeing and help ensure fellow learners understand the support available to them.
The Learner Safeguarding Champion may:
- Promote safeguarding awareness amongst learners
- Raise awareness of Prevent Duty, online safety and wellbeing
- Gather learner feedback regarding safeguarding and learner support
- Help signpost new learners to available support services
- Promote awareness of reporting routes and available resources
- Encourage learners to speak up if they have concerns
- Support learner voice activities and awareness campaigns
It is important to understand that the Learner Safeguarding Champion is not a safeguarding professional and does not replace Ginger Nut Training’s safeguarding team.
The Learner Safeguarding Champion:
- Does not investigate concerns
- Does not provide safeguarding advice
- Does not decide whether concerns should be reported
- Does not handle confidential safeguarding disclosures
If a learner has a safeguarding concern, they should always contact a member of the Ginger Nut Training safeguarding team directly using the established reporting routes.
The role provides an opportunity to develop valuable skills including:
- Communication
- Leadership
- Confidence
- Public speaking
- Advocacy
- Teamwork
- Stakeholder engagement
Many of these skills are highly valued by employers and can support future career development.
The role is open to learners who:
- Are passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment
- Want to support fellow learners
- Have good communication skills
- Are willing to represent learner views positively and professionally
Previous safeguarding knowledge is not required as support and guidance will be provided.
If you would like to express an interest in becoming a Learner Safeguarding Champion or Deputy Learner Safeguarding Champion, please speak to your tutor or contact the safeguarding team.
Together we can help create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment where every learner feels heard, valued and supported.
