Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Support
Secure Apprenticeship Funding Through Levy Transfer Opportunities
Apprenticeship levy transfers can help eligible employers access funding from larger organisations that have chosen to share a portion of their unused levy funds.
At Ginger Nut Training, we help employers understand apprenticeship funding options and explore opportunities to secure levy transfer support for apprenticeship training and assessment costs.
Levy-paying employers can transfer up to 50% of their annual levy funds to other organisations through the apprenticeship service.
Many organisations want to:
Develop existing employees
Recruit new talent
Address skills shortages
Build future leaders
Improve retention
Introduce new digital, data or AI skills
However, budget constraints can sometimes delay investment in workforce development.
Apprenticeship levy transfer funding can help remove that barrier by covering eligible apprenticeship training and assessment costs through transferred levy funds. Transferred funds cannot be used for wages or employment costs.
Large employers that pay the apprenticeship levy can choose to transfer up to 50% of their annual levy funds to other employers, helping to fund apprenticeship training and assessment.
The receiving employer remains the apprentice’s employer and continues to manage:
- Recruitment
- Employment contracts
- Salaries
- Day-to-day management
- Workplace support
The levy transfer only supports eligible apprenticeship training and assessment costs.
Many employers use apprenticeships to:
- Develop managers
- Upskill administrators
- Improve customer service capability
- Build data and digital skills
- Strengthen leadership capability
Levy transfer support can also help employers recruit and develop new talent while reducing apprenticeship training costs.
Employers of any size can potentially receive levy transfer funding, subject to availability and approval through the apprenticeship service.
Employers commonly use levy transfer support for programmes such as:
Level 3
Develop organisational, communication and operational skills.
Level 3
Build marketing, content and digital campaign expertise.
Level 3
Develop reporting, analysis and business intelligence capability.
Level 2
Improve customer experience and service delivery.
Transferred levy funds can be used to pay for eligible apprenticeship training and assessment costs up to the relevant funding band maximum.
The transfer does not cover:
- Apprentice wages
- Recruitment costs
- Equipment
- Travel expenses
- General employment costs
These remain the responsibility of the employer.
Important update
Employers should be aware that apprenticeship funding arrangements changed from 1 August 2026.
Current funding depends on factors including:
- Apprentice age
- Whether the employer pays the levy
- Whether levy funds are available
- Eligibility under current funding rules
Employers that do not pay the levy can receive 100% government funding for apprenticeship training and assessment costs for eligible apprentices aged 16–24.
Levy-paying employers with insufficient levy funds are now subject to the current co-investment arrangements set out in the 2026 funding policy.
Because funding arrangements continue to evolve, we recommend discussing your organisation’s specific circumstances with our team.
We can support employers with:
East of England Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Employer of the Year 2026
Ofsted Good Provider
Excellent employer reviews
Flexible online delivery
No minimum cohort sizes
Strong achievement rates
National apprenticeship provider
We work closely with employers to ensure apprenticeships deliver meaningful business outcomes, not simply qualifications.
