Accessible Apprenticeships at Ginger Nut Training

Creating inclusive, supported pathways for every young person to thrive.

What Are Accessible Apprenticeships?

Accessible Apprenticeships are designed for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who want to start work, learn new skills, and achieve a recognised qualification—with the right support in place from day one. These programmes follow the same rigorous standards as all apprenticeships, but both learning and workplace expectations are adapted to be flexible, inclusive, and fully personalised. This ensures every apprentice can progress with confidence and achieve their best.

The Support We Provide

At Ginger Nut Training, we make sure every learner receives the support they need throughout their apprenticeship journey. Our processes are structured, personalised, and fully aligned with national SEND and reasonable‑adjustment expectations.

Our Core Support Features

  • Comprehensive initial needs assessment, capturing any learning difficulties, disabilities, or health considerations at the point of sign‑up and recording them securely.
  • Additional Learning Support (ALS) integrated into our Reasonable Adjustments Policy, ensuring learners receive the right help from the start and throughout the programme.
  • Cognitive assessments using Cognassist, helping us identify potential learning needs early using a scientifically validated tool used by over 400,000 learners.
  • Ongoing reviews of support plans, with flexibility to adapt adjustments mid‑programme if circumstances change.
  • Support with Functional Skills and End‑Point Assessment (EPA) adjustments, including liaison with awarding bodies.

Examples of Reasonable Adjustments

Reasonable adjustments are simple, personalised changes that remove barriers to learning or workplace performance—without lowering expectations.

These may include:
  • Extra time for tasks or assessments
  • Assistive technology or specialist equipment
  • Flexible delivery schedules or increased 1:1 tutor support
  • Visual aids, step‑by‑step guides, or alternative ways of completing tasks
  • Quiet or low‑stimulus learning environments
  • Modified workplace equipment or setup

Our Commitment to Inclusion

We believe every young person deserves the chance to succeed. That’s why we take a proactive, person‑centred approach to inclusion across all training programmes. From the moment a learner joins us, we work to remove barriers, highlight strengths, and ensure adjustments are in place to support confidence, independence, and success.

Our commitment is simple:
to deliver clear, flexible, inclusive training pathways that empower every learner—especially those with SEND—to achieve meaningful, sustained employment.

How We Work With Employers

A successful Accessible Apprenticeship relies on strong collaboration between the learner, the training provider, and the employer. We work closely with employers from the outset to create the right environment for each young person.

Our Employer Partnership Includes:

  • Agreeing reasonable adjustments in advance, ensuring support is ready on day one.
  • Creating a tailored induction plan based on initial assessment and cognitive screening results.
  • Regular check‑ins with employers and learners to review progress and adapt support where needed.
  • Guidance on inclusive workplace practices, including adapting tasks or creating supportive environments.
  • Support with Functional Skills and EPA requirements, including managing adjustment requests.

Together, we help employers build inclusive teams and ensure learners feel understood, supported, and able to thrive.

Your Accessible Apprenticeship Onboarding Journey

We provide a structured and supportive process for both learners and employers to ensure a smooth, confident transition into an apprenticeship.
1. Initial Interest
Learners and employers receive clear information about accessible options, support available, and how adjustments can be tailored.
2. Initial Assessment & Screening
All learners complete mandatory screening for learning needs, including a digital cognitive assessment, helping us identify potential barriers early.
3. Understanding Needs & Creating a Support Plan
Tutors and learners discuss assessment results, review normal ways of working, and identify areas where support may be needed. An Individual Support Plan is created collaboratively.
4. Agreeing Reasonable Adjustments
Before training begins, Ginger Nut Training, the learner, and the employer agree on any workplace or training adjustments required.
5. Induction & Transition Into the Workplace
We support employers in implementing adjustments, helping learners settle confidently into their role with additional guidance during the early stages.
6. Ongoing Support & Retention
Support plans are reviewed regularly, and additional adjustments can be added at any point if needs change.

Creating Inclusive Futures, Together

Accessible Apprenticeships ensure that every learner – regardless of need – has the chance to grow, achieve, and succeed in meaningful employment.
