What Are Foundation Apprenticeships?
Foundation Apprenticeships are designed for young people aged 16–21 (or up to 24 with an EHCP or in the prison/ex-offender system). They offer a real job with structured training, just like other apprenticeships, and follow the same core principles:
- A minimum duration
- Off-the-job training
- End-point assessment (EPA)
- Competency measured against an occupational standard
These programmes are ideal for entry-level roles and are built to progress seamlessly into Level 3 apprenticeships or employment.

A Two-Year Progression Route
At Ginger Nut Training, we’re taking a combined approach:
Learners can complete a Foundation Apprenticeship and then progress directly into a Level 3 Apprenticeship — all within two years. This gives employers a clear, structured route to develop entry-level staff into fully qualified professionals.
